AFPC Kraemer Strategy Fellow Jeff M. Smith has received funding to produce a major study on Sino-Indian relations to be conducted over the next year.

From May 30 to June 5, AFPC hosted a delegation to China led by the Hon. Robert  McFarlane, former National Security Advisor (Reagan), and including; Ms. Michelle Van Cleave, former National Counterintelligence Executive; Mrs. Charlotte Ponticelli, former Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs, U.S. Department of Labor; and the President of the American Foreign Policy Council, Herman Pirchner, J

An AFPC delegation to India between January 16 and January 24 included AFPC President Herman Pirchner, Jr.; Gen. Richard Myers (ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (2001-2005); and Dr. William Schneider, former chairman (2001-2009) and current member of the Department of Defense’s Defense Science Board.

Jeff Smith appeared on Voice of America Mandarin's Issues and Opinions one-hour program to discuss Sino-Indian tensions and the state visit to the U.S. of Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

From February 23 to March 3, 2009, AFPC sponsored a ten-person delegation to China led by Dr. William Schneider, Jr., former Undersecretary of State and current Chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Science Board.

The Fall 2008 issue of Demokratizatsiya, the scholarly journal of post-Soviet democratization, carried AFPC President Herman Pirchner”s 14 page article, “The Uncertain Future Sino-Russian Relations in the Twenty-First Century”.

From December 9-14, AFPC hosted a six person delegation of senior Chinese officials in Washington, DC. The delegation was led by Mr. Zhang Zhijun, Vice Minister of the CPC Central Committee’s International Department - a position roughly equivalent to an American Under Secretary of State.

 On October 8, 2008, AFPC Senior Fellow in National Security Affairs James S. Robbins testified before the District of Columbia City Council on the issue of divestment from Iran. 

On April 28^th, 2008, AFPC and the Heinrich Boell Foundation co-sponsored a seminal conference on China’s expanding influence in Africa. The conference, entitled “Current Developments and Trends in China’s Relations with African Countries,” served as an opportunity for participants to review the policy findings and recommendations developed by AFPC Fellow in Asia Studies Joshua Eisenman and Ambassador David Shinn during their research study on China's relations with African countries. Their research will culminate in a co-authored book on China-Africa relations to be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press.

AFPC hosted the Washington visit of Russian State Duma member Ilya Ponomarev March 16-20, 2008.
