In early July, AFPC Fellow in Asia Studies Joshua Eisenman and former US Ambassador to Ethiopia David Shinn published an AFPC Policy Paper titled “Responding to China in Africa.” The twelve-page report, which has been distributed widely on Capitol Hill and within the Administration, serves as a predecessor and a summary to their book which is to be published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2009. |

From June 3-11, 2008, the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC) sponsored a five-person delegation to the People’s Republic of China. The group, led by General Peter Pace (USMC, ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States Armed Forces, included AFPC’s John Wobensmith and Ilan Berman, Paul Behrends, a principal at the law firm of Cromwell and Mooring, and Raymond Kellish, President and CEO of Blue Water Irrigation, Inc. During their eight day visit, delegation members held high-level meetings on military and strategic affairs with Party officials in Beijing, and visited China’s Xinjiang Autonomous Region |

On May 28th, AFPC arranged meetings for a delegation of officials from Hong Kong who came to the U.S. to study our election process in advance of helping to make electoral reforms in Hong Kong. Delegation leader Zheng Kunsheng (the number two official in Hong Kong) and his colleagues showed special interest in how campaign contributions are regulated in the US. |
