"Indeed, before analyzing the work of any thinker, one should first acquire a fine-grained understanding of the cultural ‘eco-system’ and specific historical context within which said texts or ideas were produced. This approach should ideally be complemented – as Quentin Skinner and other members of the so-called Cambridge school have contended – by a granular study of the author’s principal intellectual influences and contemporaries."
