Alexander Lutz

Junior Fellow

Alexander John Paul Lutz joined the American Foreign Policy Council as a Junior Fellow in September 2025. His research explores religion and politics in the post-Soviet space, with a focus on the interplay between religious transformation and contests over historical memory, national identity, sovereignty, and legitimacy. Before joining AFPC, Alexander worked with the U.S. Helsinki Commission, as a Georgian Studies Fellow at Harvard University’s Davis Center for Russian and Eurasian Studies, a Research Fellow with the Georgian Institute of Politics, and as a Research Associate with the Institute for Peace Studies in Eastern Christianity. He holds a Master of Theological Studies (MTS) from Harvard Divinity School, and a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from Mercer University.
