Brendan Sanders is a Senior Fellow for Africa Programs at the American Foreign Policy Council (AFPC) where he serves as editor for the Africa Political Monitor. He is a former Foreign Service
Officer with USAID with 18+ years of experience leading complex, multi-stakeholder projects in Kenya, Afghanistan, Mali, Benin, and Washington while serving in a variety of foreign policy, development and humanitarian assistance roles.
Before joining USAID, Sanders worked as a Political Researcher at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Washington, DC. He also served as an environmental protection Peace Corps Volunteer in Togo from 2000-2003.
Sanders completed his MA in Security Studies from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service with a focus on the linkages between US national security and international development. He has Bachelors’ degrees in Journalism and History from the University of Missouri-Columbia.
