Defense Technology Program Briefing: “The Growing Role of Contractors in National Security”

On July 14, as part of its ongoing series of briefings for Congressional staff on issues affecting defense and national security, AFPC’s Defense Technology Program was pleased to host a lecture entitled “Force Multiplier: The Future of Private Contractors Concerns and Options for Legislation.”

Moderated by Defense Technology Program Director Richard Harrison, the event featured Dr. Todd McAllister, an Associate Professor of Logistics from the National Defense University.

A career Marine Corps logistician, Dr. McAllister focused his presentation on the trend toward growing U.S. reliance on private contractors for a wide range of national security applications, from the protection of cyberspace to the current counterterrorism fight against the Islamic State terrorist group. Dr. McAllister highlighted this trend, and its implications for U.S. national security - including the need for America to invest in the next generation of national assets, including the private sector workforce
