AFPC Dinner with Russian Ambassador

On Monday, October 4, 2010, AFPC hosted a dinner with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. The Kremlin’s envoy to the U.S. since 2008, Kislyak previously served as deputy minister of foreign affairs, as well as Russia’s permanent representative to NATO in Brussels. During the Cold War, the Ambassador served as second secretary in his country’s permanent mission to the UN in New York before his first stint at the Russian Embassy in Washington DC.
Ambassador Kislyak joined a group of officials and AFPC experts to discuss the current and future state of U.S.-Russian relations, the threat of a nuclear Iran, and the state of Russian democracy. The Ambassador and AFPC President Herman Pirchner, Jr. were joined at dinner by: former Joint Chiefs Chairman General Richard Myers; former Under Secretary of State Richard McCormack; former Under Secretary of State and Defense Science Board Chairman William Schneider; former Assistant Secretary of Defense Mary Beth Long; National Secuity Council veteran Sven Kraemer and AFPC Senior Associate E. Wayne Merry. Everyone in attendance appreciated the frank discussion of the pressing issues that continue to drive one of America’s most important international relationships.
