North Korea Expert at AFPC

On Thursday, December 15, AFPC hosted a roundtable discussion with Dr. Andrei Lankov, Professor at Kookmin University in Seoul. Participants included scholars from the Congressional Research Service, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, and AFPC staff. Dr. Lankov gave an insightful presentation on the North Korean regime transition and potential reunification with South Korea prompting a discussion of regional security issues.

Having written a number of books on North Korea, and contributing to regular columns in the Asia Times, Korea Times and The Daily NK, Dr. Lankov is one of the world’s leading experts on the DPRK. Hailing originally from St. Petersburg (then Leningrad), Dr. Lankov has a unique background among Korea Watchers, having studied in North Korea during the 1980s and witnessed the breakup of his native Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
