The killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani on January 3rd opened a qualitatively new phase in the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran.

This conference, the inaugural event in a series of occasional AFPC seminars built around the theme of “Understanding Iran,” will convene leading thinkers and scholars to go “beyond the headlines” and explore Iran's internal political dynamics and its foreign policy priorities, as well as their strategic implications for the United States, as we navigate this new and more confrontational environment.
