Mr. Eric Ormes is a Senior Fellow in Defense Studies at the American Foreign Policy Council, where his areas of expertise include Cybersecurity and Information Technology and Innovation. He has over a decade of cybersecurity experience in the U.S. Government, first as an Air Force Officer followed by several consulting roles at the Department of Homeland Security and Federal Bureau of Investigation.  He has spent the last half decade working in various capacities for numerous private sector companies, ranging in critical industries from Banking and Finance to Information Technology.  Mr. Ormes has worked previously with the American Foreign Policy Council, assisting with the development of and contributing a chapter to Cyber Insecurity: Navigating the Perils of the Next Information Age (Rowman and Littlefield, October 2016), an edited volume on cybersecurity policy.

He earned his B.S in Computer Science from the University of Virginia and his M.S. in Information Assurance from Capitol Technology University.  Additionally, he holds multiple professional certifications in cybersecurity including (ISC)2 Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), SANS GIAC Certified Incident Handler (GCIH), SANS GIAC Certified Penetration Tester (GPEN) and CompTIA Security+.  He also served as the co-chair of the Young Professionals in Foreign Policy (YPFP) Cybersecurity Policy and Technology Discussion Group.
