On February 29, First Deputy Speaker of the Rada (Ukraine’s parliament) Andriy Parubiy met with a small group of senior AFPC specialists on Ukraine and Russia led by former Under Secretary of State (and AFPC Advisory Board member) Robert Joseph and AFPC President Herman Pirchner, Jr.

It was the third time AFPC met with Parubiy over the past year. Parubiy was a senior leader in the 2013 Maidan demonstrations that led to the toppling of Ukraine’s pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovich. Those demonstrations, and the subsequent political upheaval in Ukraine, is well documented in the Netflix Oscar-nominated film “Winter on Fire.”

Our highly informative discussion with Parubiy covered the status of Ukraine’s ongoing war with Russia and its East Ukrainian proxies as well as anti-corruption and political reform efforts underway in Ukraine.
