From March 24-27, AFPC hosted a four-person Chinese delegation headed by Mr. Ma Hui, the Director General of the North American, Oceanic and Scandinavian Affairs Bureau of the International Department of the Central Committee of the CPC (IDCPC).
AFPC’s Rich Harrison, along with researcher Jason Czerwiec, escorted the delegates to meetings in Washington and Boston, and arranged meetings for the trip.
The Chinese delegation used their visit to promote a better understanding of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s “anti-corruption” campaign and the country’s new focus on the issue, and to learn how the U.S. combats and mitigates corruption within the U.S. government.
To facilitate this dialogue, AFPC arranged meetings for the delegation with senior officials at the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Office of Government Ethics. Following these and other meetings, the Chinese delegates attended a dinner hosted by AFPC, which was attended by former Under Secretary of State Amb. Richard McCormack, Judge Loren Smith of the U.S. Federal Court of Claims, Daniel Hartnett of the Center for Naval Analysis, and senior AFPC staffers.
Following their meetings in DC, the delegation traveled to Boston, Massachusetts to meet with scholars and leaders there, including Larry Summers, President Emeritus of Harvard University and former Director of the National Economic Council, and Graham Allison, Director Harvard’s Belfair Center and former Assistant Secretary of Defense. AFPC also arranged a lunch for the delegation with Kent Lucken, former U.S. Foreign Service officer and Foreign Policy Advisor for Governor Mitt Romney’s 2008 and 2012 presidential campaigns.
