U.S. Senators join AFPC-hosted reception and dinner for visiting Chinese delegation

On the evening of January 11, AFPC hosted a reception and dinner for a five-person delegation from China headed by Vice Chairman Han Jun of the Office of the Central Leading Group on Financial and Economic Affairs.     

Guests at the reception and dinner included; U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA); U.S. Senator David Perdue (R-GA); Former Undersecretary of State and Defense Science Board Chairman (current member) Dr. Bill Schneider; former Undersecretary of Defense Dr. Dov Zakheim; AFPC President Herman Pirchner, Jr.; and, Former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and AFPC Senior Fellow for International Economic Affairs (inactive) Ms. Manisha Singh.

During the reception, Vice Chairman Han and the Senators held an extensive discussion regarding agricultural policies in China. Thereafter, the dinner focused on a broader array of topics, including China’s changing economy and its recent stock market crisis, the culture of “start up America,” the need for China to respect intellectual property rights, the challenge for China’s state owned enterprises, and the demographic challenges the country faces despite recently rescinding its one child policy.
