The Dictator Demise study was conducted in association with Post Putin: Seccession, Stability, and Russia's Future by Herman Pirchner and a condensed version is found in that book's appendix (referenced therein as the Azinheira study). The study summarizes the fate of 126 dictators/authoritarian heads of state who have ruled countries with a population of 10 million or more since 1950. For the purpose of this study, subjects were considered authoritarian if they came to power through means other than free and fair elections or ruled with total control.
