AFPC delegation examines China’s economy, Foreign Policy

From August 24-29, AFPC organized a delegation of mid-career foreign policy experts to travel to Beijing and Qingdao in Shandong Province. 

Led by AFPC Senior Fellow for International Economic Affairs Manisha Singh, the delegation was comprised of Asia experts including: AFPC Director of Operations and Defense Technology Programs Richard Harrison; the U.S.Chamber of Commerce’s Director for Asia Paul Kong; AFPC Senior Fellow for China Studies Joshua Eisenman; Hoover Institution Research Fellow Leisel Bogan; RAND Corporation Research Assistant Nathan Beauchamp-Mustafag; U.S. House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee Professional Staff Member Oren Adaki; and, The Asia Group Senior Associate Jennifer Schuch-Page.

During their visit, delegates engaged in discussions with top political and security officials in the Communist Party of China, senior officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Commerce, the China Center for Contemporary World Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the China Institutes of Contemporary International Relations, members of the National People’s Congress, and senior regional officials from the Qingdao Foreign Affairs Office and Bureau of Commerce.  The delegation’s discussions covered a wide range of bilateral and global topics, including territorial disputes in the South China Sea, cybersecurity, sources of energy and managing global economic turmoil.
