On October 2, AFPC’s Central Asia-Caucasus Institute (CACI) hosted a roundtable on Black Sea security issues. Viktor Dolidze, Georgia’s Minister of European and Euro-Atlantic Integration, keynoted the roundtable, at which speakers included Stephen Blank, AFPC Senior Fellow and Margarita Assenova of the Jamestown Foundation. The roundtable identified the Black Sea as a weak link in European security. Russian measures following the annexation of Crimea were highlighted, as were growing rifts within the western alliance, particularly as relations between Turkey and its NATO partners have deteriorated. The roundtable explored ways to improve dialogue and coordination among NATO and its partner countries in the region to reduce threats and improve regional security.
