On November 17, AFPC’s Central Asia-Caucasus Institute hosted a Forum on “Uzbekistan in Transition: Action Strategy for Reforms.” The Forum featured members of an Uzbek delegation providing insider information on the new Uzbek president’s reform agenda for the country’s politics and economy. The delegation included the Chairman of the Uzbek Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Alisher Kurmanov, and Deputy Chairman of the State Investment Committee Laziz Kudratov. Based on findings from Uzbekistan’s new Development Strategy Center, these speakers detailed profound reform efforts across the Uzbek economy and answered direct and detailed questions on the current state of the country. The speakers emphasized that many of the barriers to reform and development in Uzbekistan are barriers for Central Asia as a whole. Regional stability, earlier economic policies, and a separation from the larger international community are all problems reportedly in the process of being resolved by the current government’s efforts.
