On March 6, AFPC’s CACI held a forum titled “Mirziyoyev’s Domestic Reforms, Year One: Judiciary, Governance and Civil Society.” CACI Chairman Frederick Starr served as the moderator for the event, and key speakers included Mjuša Sever, the Director of Regional Dialogue in Uzbekistan, and the International Foundation for Electoral Systems Senior Program Manager for the Caucasus and Central Asia Anthony Bowyer.

This forum marked the launch of two corresponding Silk Road Papers on the topics of judiciary reform and secular governance in Uzbekistan. The briefing discussed the judicial, governance, electoral, and civil society reforms that have occurred in Uzbekistan since Shavkat Mirziyoyev acceded to power in 2016, and what they mean for Uzbekistan and the region.
